Jake's Newsletter
March 1, 2009
It has been a very exciting and eventful month. Delivery trucks have been a regular sight at our house the last few weeks. Boxes have been arriving from the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Each time a truck pulled up, we were overwhelmed with joy, anticipating which item it would be. The beauty of Jake’s smile to see what was inside the boxes was absolutely priceless. He was into some items before they were even out of their box.
With all of this excitement we have even more wonderful news to report. Jake stood up for the very first time EVER this month. He was in his new Ball Pit (before we even had balls in it) and he propped himself up onto his knees and pulled himself into the standing position. It only lasted a second and it wasn’t a perfectly straight stand but it is a new milestone and a huge accomplishment for him.
Jake’s new therapy room is just about completed! It is already evident that this will be a large contribution to continued progress. He has never been so happy and our neighbors can confirm that with the screams of joy and laughter they hear on a regular basis. Jake is able to increase his muscle tone and stamina through therapeutic play every day. He has a 32 inch TV in his room on the wall that is helping to increase his attention span. He actually watched the TV for 3 minutes today.
On the medical front, Jake was seen by an Infectious Diseases doctor for painful boils. He was diagnosed with a Staph infection in the M.R.S.A. form. We believe that he has been going through this for a while but was just incorrectly treated with the wrong antibiotics until now. He also saw his Dentist for a cleaning and got a good bill of health. His visit at the ENT doctor confirmed fluid in his ears so he will need his third set of tubes. This will be his 9th surgery and is scheduled for this month.
As we celebrate the one year anniversary of JakeJunction.com, we had many wonderful things to report for this month’s newsletter. None of it could have been possible with out the help of you, our friends, family and supporters. Your generosity and compassion has greatly impacted the life of our little boy, our family and we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. We’d like to say Thank you in person and invite you all to come see Jake’s new therapy room. We will be holding an Open House on Sunday March 22, from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm. If you are reading this, we’d love to have you over and see Jake crawl. If you can’t attend the Open House, please contact us to visit another time. Please click here for complete details.
