Jake's Newsletter
March 1, 2010
Jake has completed his first month of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, halfway there. Jake has really been doing well during his HBOT treatments. Each treatment is one hour long and he goes Monday through Friday. Since treatment began, we have noticed that his thought process has advanced. He has now figured out how to open doors and he’s even aware that he needs to move out of the way to pull the door completely open. He continues to pull himself into his ball pit daily and he’s even able to get himself out of the ball pit now. Since we have started HBOT treatment, there is no time for traditional therapies outside of school. Jake will be taking a break from outside therapies until April to continue his HBOT treatments.
Since Jake turned 6 years old, he’s no longer eligible for vision services through the Lighthouse for the Blind. He does however qualify for treatment from the Division of Blind Services. Although the Division of Blind Services doesn’t have funding for treatment at this time, they do have a program which provides children like Jake with visual materials to work with at home. Jake received a large delivery of visual aids which are all a lot of fun and can help him learn simultaneously. Some of the visual aids seem to be just fun toys to him. Check out the size of the ball in this photo. It is perfect for Jake. The yellow circles make crinkle sounds and is light enough for him to throw around, it’s inflatable.
Cure CMD T-Shirts are now available for purchase. Previously, only the cool kids could wear them, as noted in the picture, but you too can have one of the coolest shirts EVER! Click here to purchase one, or two. (Do it, click it, buy it, you know you want to!)
Jake’s mom is currently fundraising for Cure CMD for the Marathon she’s running with Team Cure CMD. Her fundraising goal is set at $2000.00 and she’s currently raised around $1500.00. A big thank you to everyone who is helping her to reach her goal to help find a treatment or cure for Jake and kids just like him.
Thank you for continuing to support Jake and the efforts of Cure CMD that are trying to find a treatment or cure for his disease. We appreciate all of you very much!
