Jake's Newsletter
April 1, 2009
We are proud to announce his room is finally completed. It's nice to be able to relax and enjoy it with him. It's not just the fun that he has, but it's also amazing to watch him advance. There are a lot of little things that are hard to capture on film, such as his awareness of his environment. He'll notice his Mom or I and get up on all fours to crawl to us. He only makes it one to three steps, then falls and scoots the rest of the way. I know this is not a big deal to most parents, but it's one of the most amazing things I've ever witnessed. More about his advancements later.
Jake's Open House was great. We literally finished the room that morning. A bunch of folks showed up in their JakeJunction.com shirts. We made them all pile into his room for the picture. Jake was quite the trooper and showed off for almost everyone.
Jake also hosted his first playdate in his new room. He invited his old friend Teagan to come over and play. She has Cerebral Palsy and gets along very well with Jake. As soon as she came in the house, she said "Jake" real loud. You had to be there, but it was so cute. They both enjoyed the room and it gave Jake another incentive to crawl, wink wink.
On the medical front, Jake's ear tube surgery went very well. Everything went as planned, all is well. There's no change in his behavior, so we know he wasn't in any pain prior to the surgery. Now he'll have less ear infections and sicknesses, hopefully.
If you remember last month's newsletter, Jake stood for the first time. As of today, March 31st, he has stood nine times. Yesterday someone asked me about his room. They wondered if he really liked it or had a lot of fun in there. I explained to them that I know for certain that him standing wouldn't have happened at home without the new room. We didn't have the space for him to even attempt it. THAT, is what the room is all about. Which brings us to our closing, where we want to thank you for your support. Again, without it, none of this would be possible. His quality of life has improved even more and we owe much of it to you. Thank you. We look forward to writing the next newsletter.
