Jake's Newsletter
August 1, 2010

Jake has shown amazing progress this past month. On July 7th, while waiting to get into an oxygen chamber, he bolted off and crawled about 12- 15 feet, the farthest he’s ever crawled. He maneuvered the crawl like he had been doing it for years, when in actuality it was the first time he had ever gone more than 3 or 4 feet! Each day since, he’s continued to crawl to whatever entices him. Typically his attention is drawn to anything he can’t have, such as electrical outlets :-)
He completed his 4th month of Hyper Baric Oxygen Therapy and is now scheduled to continue treatment on September 7th. We’ve seen so many incredible results since starting therapy last February that it seems essential to continue. It's hard to explain, it's not that he's hit any particular milestone, it's just the he's a little more advanced in just about everything across the board.
While on our annual family vacation, we attended a drum circle on the beach. Jake was having such a great time dancing and laughing, then one of the drummers noticed him and actually let him be a part of the show. He loves to drum as you can see from this photo. After this was taken, the lady made me hold the drum, went around to the other side of the drum, took Jake from Jennifer, then showed Jake how to drum. It was amazing that she knew he was special in a crowd of hundreds, and that she was able to support him while he was standing, yet he knew just where to hold the drumsticks. Look at his hands in the second photo!
As many of you know, Cure CMD is the only organization dedicated to
bringing research, treatments and in the future, a cure solely for Congenital Muscular Dystrophies. Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. If you would like to purchase a Travel Bug, please visit the link above. Jake has ordered a travel bug and is developing a crafty way to raise awareness for Cure CMD. Check future newsletters to track Jake's travel bug.
We recently lost a close family friend and an amazing man, John Stalker. John’s family was certain that John would have preferred that in liu of flowers being sent to the services, he would want any donations to go towards JakeJunction.com. We think this is a remarkable gesture and want to express our sincere appreciation the entire Stalker family again!
